Pope Describes St. John Chrysostom as a Father of Church Social Doctrine

The Pope related today that besides his role as a teacher and theologian, St. John Chrysostom was a reformer. He was concerned for women, marriage, and the family in addition to setting a high standard for austerity and almsgiving. Not afraid to take the message to the political realm, St. Chrysostom was eventually exiled for his convictions . http://www.cwnews.com/news/viewstory.cfm?recnum=53765

"Not to enable the poor to share in our goods is to steal from them and deprive them of life. The goods we possess are not ours, but theirs." - St. John Chrysostom, Homily in Lazaro 2, 5; J.P.
